'Aziz part of meeting to appoint company to undertake Perak solid waste management'

Abdul Aziz (photo) at that time held the Perak state Education, Science, Environment, Green Technology and Information portfolio.
"The meeting had, in principle, agreed to appoint Mainiza Teknitek Recowaste Sdn Bhd and the other company owned by the state government to undertake waste management and public cleansing," Hasnul said.
Hasnul made the statement after Abdul Aziz urged the state government to explain the reason behind the contract being awarded without going through open tender.
Abdul Aziz had said that the action was "shocking and lacked transparency" and he raised concerns that it would lead to a monopoly and make garbage collection more expensive.
For the record, on June 15, Majuperak Holdings Bhd announced to Bursa Malaysia that it was entering into a joint venture with private company Mainiza Teknitek Recowaste Sdn Bhd.
The notice was issued after Mainiza informed Majuperak that the state government had agreed to appoint both companies to undertake solid waste management and public cleansing in the state.
Specifically, Mainiza will partner Majuperak's wholly-owned subsidiary Majuperak Utilities Management Sdn Bhd (MUMSB).
Perak Menteri Besar Faizal Azumu's former political secretary Nizran Noordin sits on both Majuperak and MUMSB's boardroom.
Meanwhile, commenting on Abdul Aziz's claims that the company is categorised as PN17 (problematic company), Hasnul said the allegation is “baseless and slanderous”.
"Mainiza Teknitek Recowaste does not fall under PN17 as claimed.
"The company never had a situation which could drag it to fall under the PN17 category.
"This means the company is solid without severe financial problems," he added.
He further explained that Mainiza Teknitek Recowaste is a company under the cooperation between Mainiza Mantap Sdn Bhd and Teknitek Services Sdn Bhd, which has been operational for 20 years in solid waste management and cleansing services in several states in Malaysia.
The company also owned many assets including 300 units of compactor lorries, among others.
"The appointment of Mainiza Teknitek Recowaste is based on experience, financial ability and asset capacity,” he added.
