PN must tackle three issues to avoid calling for polls - Umno Youth

The wing's chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki (above) said these are the opposition's alleged efforts to buy representative support, the small majority held by PN and setting aside the perception that the government is "without a mandate".
"The current position of the government is fragile. A small majority leaves room for speculation and perception games as triggered by (opposition leader) Anwar Ibrahim who supposedly has the support of 129 parliamentarians.
"The government that is constantly accused and perceived by Pakatan Harapan as a 'government without the people's mandate' will chip at domestic and foreign investors' confidence, making the country's economic recovery difficult, even stunting the implementation of policies important for the people.
“If all three factors are not contained, the reality is that the government will have few options but to return the mandate to the people to choose leaders who will sincerely champion their fortunes and not just fight for power,” he told Malaysiakini.
Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan (below) yesterday urged Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin to follow in Singapore’s footsteps and call for the dissolution of Parliament to give way to GE15.
He said the move was needed to restore political stability to the country so that the elected government would secure the mandate to serve.
Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong had on Tuesday called for elections in the island state which is to be held on July 10.
“Any effort to revive the economy, create jobs and improve competition cannot happen without a stable government and a Parliament that can provide check and balance.
“[...] We are a parliamentary democracy. The real power lies with the rakyat and not (political coalitions) which can be formed according to convenience and political interests.
"Therefore, let the people decide on the future direction of our beloved country,” Mohamad, who is more popularly known as Tok Mat, had said.
Meanwhile, Umno supreme council member Mohd Puad Zarkashi supported the call for a snap polls, saying Muhyiddin has little choice as the opposition intends to table a motion of no-confidence against him.
Otherwise, he said the new method of changing government before a full-term could render elections irrelevant.
“The central government and state governments can change through political theatrics and buying of elected representatives. With this new method, the government can change in a short time, even within a day.
“This is not good, and there will be no end (to this) to the point there is a party who is willing to be prime minister for just six months.
“The insanity of politics has no end. How can the country move forward, especially in handling the Covid-19 pandemic?” he told Malaysiakini.
Puad was referring to former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad's proposal to Harapan during negotiations to wrest back Putrajaya, that he return as premier for a period of six months before finally handing over power to Anwar.
The proposal, however, was not accepted by PKR.
