(AFP) Malaysia is not considered a high risk country for terrorist attacks on United States' interests, Washington's ambassador to Kuala Lumpur said today.

A new US warning of a possible second wave of terror attacks was general and worldwide, Marie Huhtala told reporters after presenting awards for the Young Enterprise Programme here.

"They haven't specified where they think the attacks might come from. But no, there has been nothing specific about Malaysia," she said in response to a question on risk levels in Malaysia.

"People are very happy with the working environment here. Security is one concern but as I said, this is a worldwide problem and not just Malaysia's," she was quoted as saying by Bernama news agency.

Peaceful protests

Huhtala said that after last month terror attacks on the US, security around the embassy had been beefed up. There have been some peaceful protests outside the embassy against US bombings in Afghanistan.

Newspapers in Malaysia, a moderate Muslim nation, are filled daily with pictures of sick, frightened and injured Afghan children, and medical teams have left to help minister to them in camps in Pakistan.
