Shafie as PM: Don't take us for fools, says GPS leader

The proposal was revealed yesterday by former deputy prime minister Dr Mahahir Mohamad, who is working to oust Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin who only has a three-seat majority in the Dewan Rakyat.
"I know that Shafie (below) is a good and capable leader, but do not take Sabahans and Sarawakians for fools by proposing him as the PM after the 15th General Election in order to get the two East Malaysian states to support him for his proposal.
"There is no way Malaysian voters would accept it! I ask Dr Mahathir to stop playing politics and get real for once," he was quoted as saying by The Star.
The proposal was made as an alternative amid an impasse between Mahathir and PKR president Anwar Ibrahim over who should be the prime ministerial candidate for Pakatan Harapan and its allies.
However, Shafie's candidacy which, if successful, would make him the first prime minister from East Malaysia, is also seen as an attempt to court support from Sabah and Sarawak.
PRS is part of the Sarawak-based GPS coalition, which have 18 MPs.
GPS, which is presently siding with Perikatan Nasional, is seen as a kingmaker due to razor-thin majority in the Dewan Rakyat.
