Reject deceitful politics, Anwar posts after Shafie for PM announcement
PKR president Anwar Ibrahim has urged the public to reject deceitful politics, hours after his rival Dr Mahathir Mohamad publicly backed Shafie Apdal as the opposition's candidate for prime minister.
Taking to social media, Anwar wrote in capital letters "Reject politics of lies and tricks".

Taking to social media, Anwar wrote in capital letters "Reject politics of lies and tricks".
Switching to lower letter casing, he added: "Politics is not about squabbling for power, but also how it is to be interpreted."
"Is it to defend the people or just to continue an old and worn out system?"
These were paraphrased remarks from a speech he gave online yesterday evening. A video excerpt of the speech was attached to the post.
Pakatan Harapan's plans to retake Putrajaya had been halted after PKR insisted that Anwar - not former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad - should helm the government.
DAP and Amanah, however, want Anwar to compromise and become Mahathir's deputy for six months before taking over as prime minister.
With the situation at a deadlock, Mahathir has decided to withdraw himself from the race.
Instead, together with top leaders from DAP and Amanah, the nonagenarian has decided to back Shafie as prime minister, with Anwar and Mukhriz Mahathir as deputies.
Amanah and DAP, however, said the matter still needs to be discussed at the Harapan level.
Meanwhile, Anwar in his speech yesterday, said he found it personally difficult to keep dallying and compromising to retain "the old and worn out".
He said Malaysians were capable of realising actual change and not settle for dirty politics.
"Politics and being in power is not to enrich yourself or your family or to continue your greed or to exercise vengeance.
"It is to make peace and to embrace (each other's) strengths [...] to make Malaysia a peaceful country for all," he said.
