Sabah DAP wants all East M'sia MPs, including GPS, to back Shafie as PM
Sabah DAP has backed the proposal to nominate Warisan president Shafie Apdal as the opposition's prime minister candidate and wants all East Malaysian MPs to do the same, including GPS.
It said an East Malaysian premier would ensure that Sabah and Sarawak would no longer be marginalised as partners in the federation.

"Together with Shafie Apdal as prime minister, we could kill two birds with one stone, having an East Malaysia-led federation policy and at the same time reinstating Sabah and Sarawak's state rights," they said in a statement.
Among others, they said Shafie would ensure the implementation of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 and that Sabah and Sarawak were not marginalised in development budgets.
They said Shafie could also resolve issues revolving around oil royalties, petroleum cash payments, oil fields and other state rights "which previous and current prime ministers from Peninsular Malaysia were not able to agree to."
"We hereby urge all East Malaysian members of Parliaments to rally in support of Shafie to make history for Malaysia by having the first prime minister from East Malaysia.
"In particular, we call upon Sabah's PBS, Star, PBRS and Sarawak's GPS, to give their vote of confidence for Shafie as PM.
"This will enable Sabah and Sarawak to benefit from more development and be able to improve the living standards of the people here," Sabah DAP said.
Pakatan Harapan's plans to retake Putrajaya had been halted after PKR insisted that Anwar - and not former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad - should helm the government.
DAP and Amanah, however, want Anwar to compromise and become Mahathir's deputy for six months before taking over as prime minister.
However, Mahathir today announced his backing for Shafie to be prime minister, a move that could break the deadlock.
It comes ahead of next month's Parliament sitting for which PAS has filed a motion of confidence in support of Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
This vote could show that Shafie or other candidates have majority control of the Dewan Rakyat instead.
