Harapan needs to discuss Shafie as PM move internally - DAP, Amanah
The move to nominate Warisan president Shafie Apdal as prime minister with Anwar Ibrahim and Mukhriz Mahathir as his deputies still needs to be discussed internally by DAP, Amanah and Pakatan Harapan.
In a joint statement, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng and Amanah president Mohamad Sabu said their meeting with Dr Mahathir Mohamad on Thursday was an informal one and the suggestion was a "new option".
The move to nominate Warisan president Shafie Apdal (above) as prime minister with Anwar Ibrahim and Mukhriz Mahathir as his deputies still needs to be discussed internally by DAP, Amanah and Pakatan Harapan.
In a joint statement, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng and Amanah president Mohamad Sabu said their meeting with Dr Mahathir Mohamad on Thursday was an informal one and the suggestion was a "new option".
"It is a new option to realise efforts to restore the people's mandate which was given to Harapan and Warisan in the 14th general election.
"However, this proposal needs to be discussed by Amanah and DAP's central leaderships first before it is brought to the Harapan presidential council to be decided upon together," they said.
Earlier, Mahathir said that at the meeting on Thursday, he, Mohamad Sabu, Lim, Shafie, and other DAP leaders agreed to nominated the Warisan president as prime minister.
This is after Harapan remained at an impasse with PKR insisting Anwar be the prime minister candidate and not Mahathir.
When contacted, Amanah communications director Khalid Samad said Mohamad Sabu had informed the party this morning that a meeting would be called to discuss the matter further.
Asked about his personal opinion on the Shafie proposal, Khalid replied: "A deadlock doesn't benefit anyone."
"We must find a way to solve this so whatever proposals must be considered, and maybe we must set conditions and whatever. We must find a solution," he added.
Malaysiakini has contacted PKR leaders for comments.

Harapan had been hinting that it would be making a move to take back federal power from Perikatan Nasional.
However, the stalemate over the coalition's prime minister candidate has halted these plans.
PKR has said that it did not trust Mahathir to fulfil a pledge to retire after only six months at the helm.
DAP and Amanah, however, argue that it would not be possible to get the number of MPs needed to execute their plan without Mahathir.
Shafie has also rejected a plan for Anwar to be nominated as prime minister.
At the time he was floated as a possible deputy prime minister candidate but he denied that he was looking for any federal post.
