He said the staff representatives in a meeting with Cuepacs today, informed that since the agency was dissolved in 2018, they had not received any updates on the government's plan for them in the Road Transport Department (RTD).
“All of them have not received any news from the RTD senior management on their contract status due to end on Dec 31.
"Obviously they are all now worried and are in a precarious position, as their contract would end soon, though they had earlier been promised permanent appointments based on their qualifications, years of service and performance," he told reporters at Wisma Cuepacs today.
Adnan said according to the order of events, the government on May 23, 2018, made the decision to dissolve Spad as a cost-saving measure and to further strengthen the public land transport sector.
Subsequently, the then government promised and guaranteed the welfare of the Spad staff by offering them employment in various agencies under the Transport Ministry especially with the RTD.
"The staff on contract are in the enforcement division holding grades 29 and 41 positions. I hope the government will renew their contract before they could be given permanent appointments in RTD," he said.
In another development, Adnan called on the government to review what the previous government had announced earlier, such as the annual salary increment for all civil servants effective July 1, 2018, which has yet to be implemented.
“In addition, the same government had agreed to shorten the second time-based promotion period from 13 years to 10 years effective Jan 1, 2018, yet to be implemented too,” he said.
