Muafakat Nasional leaders from Umno and PAS met with Bersatu last night to discuss efforts to formalise Perikatan Nasional to face the 15th general election.
According to an insider, the meeting of the parties' negotiating committees in Kuala Lumpur sought to find common ground, but an agreement to formalise their coalition was still a ways away.

According to an insider, the meeting of the parties' negotiating committees in Kuala Lumpur sought to find common ground, but an agreement to formalise their coalition was still a ways away.
"We did not discuss seat allocation, instead we talked about technical matters involving the formal registration of PN.
"It was to find common ground among the parties in efforts to strengthen PN, especially to face GE15.
"This meeting doesn't mean we have agreed to formally register PN, as many things need to be fine-tuned," the source told Malaysiakini on condition of anonymity.
Yesterday, BN secretary-general Annuar Musa said that the meeting last night had to be cancelled and would be held at the weekend.
However, the source said the parties met anyway, without the media's knowledge.
PN was formed in late February after Muhyiddin Yassin pulled Bersatu out of Pakatan Harapan to form a new government with Umno, BN, and PAS, with support from GPS.
However, critics including disputed Bersatu chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad, said that the coalition would like to put the party on the back foot in the next general election.
This is as Umno and PAS are unlikely to give up seats for Bersatu to contest.
A fake list for PN candidates for the next general election that is circulating on social media is seen to be a wishlist for Bersatu to get a more favourable position in the polls.
Muhyiddin is said to be considering snap elections once the country stabilises from the Covid-19 pandemic.
However, this might come sooner if a vote of confidence for the prime minister tabled by PAS goes awry, with no one ending up with a majority.
Harapan, which has been trying to stage a counter-coup, is divided over who should be their candidate for prime minister.
