Bersatu, PAS won't contest Sarawak state election - James Masing
A Sarawak party leader said today that Bersatu and PAS have given assurance that the two parties will not contest the 12th state election, which can be held any time from now, but will support the ruling Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition.

A Sarawak party leader said today that Bersatu and PAS have given assurance that the two parties will not contest the 12th state election, which can be held any time from now, but will support the ruling Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition.
Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president James Masing (above) said the assurance was given by Bersatu president and acting chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin as well as PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang during a two-hour meeting of Perikatan Nasional (PN) party leaders with the GPS alliance in Putrajaya yesterday.
This assurance not only will clear the way for GPS to fight the opposition head-on, but it is a sign that the PN component parties would honour their commitment to assist Sarawak GPS when the 12th state election is called, Masing said in a statement.
He also said that GPS will continue to support Muhyiddin as the prime minister to lead the charge in the 15th general election (GE15).
GPS is a coalition of four Sarawak-based parties, namely Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), Progressive Democratic Party (PDP), and PRS.
“(Sarawak Chief Minister) Abang Johari Abang Openg, the chairperson of GPS, made the GPS position very clear within PN. He told the meeting that the 12th state election for Sarawak is just around the corner. GPS is ready. The four component parties are readying themselves to fight the opposition,” he said.
Masing said Muhyiddin and the other party leaders in the PN and GPS alliance were confident of winning the battle of GE15, once technical matters within PN could be ironed out.
He also believed that the various component parties involved were on their way to forming a "healthy" political coalition.
Apart from Bersatu, PAS, and GPS, the other parties in the coalition are Umno, MCA, MIC, Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS), Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS), and Sabah State Reform Party (STAR).
