On Wanita Umno branch wants Nazri sacked

Peter: Sometimes I feel that many of the Umno leaders have gone overboard in condemning Tun Dr Mahathir. No doubt he may have his faults. But his faults do not warrant such merciless remarks like, "if you are a 'jantan', resign from Umno".

Questions that Tun asks are legitimate and the rakyat too want to know the answers. That the issues have been blown out of proportion are caused by Pak Lah himself - thinking that by maintaining his 'elegant' silence, he is doing the nation good. I really don't think so. Answering the questions would have solved the problem. But he chose not to!

Despite the merciless remarks and condemnation of Tun Dr Mahathir, it is a real relief to see that a Wanita Umno branch in Kubang Pasu coming out to condemn Nazri. I think it is very apt to have Nazri being sacked from Umno. It is very unMalay-like to be crude and rude to an elder. Umno, being a defender of Malay race and culture, should show the way.

Although they do not throw outright support for Tun, the Umno Wanita branch at least shows that there still exist some people out there who are still grateful to Tun. And as the Malay proverbs goes, "hutang emas boleh bibayar, hutang budi dibawa sampai mati".

On Mediator for Pak Lah-Dr M spat?

Concerned Citizen: I must agree with the information minister and happy that he is taking the lead to defuse the tension between the former PM and the present PM. This is the way things should be done by a cabinet minister. I only wish for Pak Lah to meet Mahathir and sort out all differences, especially the very private discussion they might have before Mahathir handed over power to Pak Lah. If Pak Lah has committed to certain decisions in the private discussion, then he should explain why he is unable to carry them out now.

This will help. I think Pak Lah should get Mahathir's advice on how to proceed if he can't implement these decisions due to certain reasons or constrains. We feel Mahathir is questioning Pak Lah on this, and only Pak Lah should reply, not the cabinet members. Keep it up information minister, you have our support.

Syed Imran: It is no surprise that Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi flew to Australia for a holiday with his family, but it is a surprise to know that he underwent sinus treatment in Perth. Sinus is not that serious and can be easily treated in Malaysia, either by modern medicine or traditional medication.

When Tun was prime minister, he underwent open heart surgery at KL Hospital. After having successfully undergoing the critical surgery, Tun set up the National Heart Institute to enable Malaysians (and foreigners) suffering from heart diseases to undergo treatment and surgery there.

Maybe Abdullah can set up a special hospital in Kepala Batas to treat sinutisis so that Malaysians don't have to fly to Australia for treatment.

Whose sensitivities and sentiments are they talking about? If they really care about the peoples' feelings, they should have organised a referendum vote, to see what the people really want. Did they even bother to ask how the Johorean people feel about this matter? The government should not just say that they took into consideration of our feelings, because they certainly did not ask all the Malaysians I know who support the project.

On Dr M's ex-aide: PM must explain KJ's millions

Pot and Kettle: I think Mr Chang has a good and valid point in asking for an explanation as to how Khiary became a multi-millionaire so fast. On a same note, I think the Mahathir-Chang partnership should also explain how people like Halim Saad, Anuar Othman, Tajuddin Ramli, Vincent Tan, Tun Ling's son, etc, became rich during the Mahathir regime. Similarly Mr Chang must also explain himself how he became Mahathir's political secretary and Chinese affairs advisor.

Sadirah K: While Matthias Chang has the right to ask how Khairy got his millions, I think it is also appropriate to ask him to clarify how Dr M's son was bailed out during the currency crisis using Petronas money.

Anuar Kamal: I find Haris' views on the lack of jurisdiction of the Syariah Court in the Shamala and Moorthy cases somewhat contradictory to the rest of his position. Does he want more Islamic law and more powers to state courts or not? Haris does make very good arguments on freedom of religion save for this part. He cannot have the cake and eat it. Make a stand and stay consistent.

I think Haris has more guts on the whole, unlike Aziz Bari and Zaid. Mazeni Alwi likes to think he is okay with the rest of the world but his views do reflect conservatism which he claims to be views of Muslims in rural areas, etc. Did he do a survey on that? Puhleese, it's rural Muslims who may be more open because they are so practical. It's the urban elite Muslims who are into this allegedly "pristine, real" Islam, according to him and those whose views he represent in Muslim Professionals Forum.

Pancha Vismrit: The signatures, which have been submitted to the Nepal Embassy, would convey a strong public voice to the seven-party alliance and the Maoists. The achievement in gathering the thousands of signatures also shows the public demand - which has been taken into account by Ramesh Tufan and the migrant workers right group, Tenaganita. The migrant workers are really thankful to them.

Today, the seven-party alliance and the Maoist have to consider another aspect, which is the demand for a democratic Nepali republic. In their own way, Nepalis are determining the country's fate.
