Syed Saddiq to withdraw legal challenge against removal from Bersatu

A veteran lawyer has confirmed that former Bersatu Youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman intends to withdraw from a legal challenge against the latter’s removal from the party.
However, Mohamed Haniff Khatri Abdulla said the former youth and sports minister still maintained that the latter’s dismissal from Bersatu was wrong.
Speaking to Malaysiakini today, Haniff said Syed Saddiq (above) revealed his intention to withdraw yesterday evening through a statement.
Syed Saddiq revealed that he would not further delay the efforts to rid him from Bersatu and would, therefore, withdraw his legal challenge against his removal.
Haniff said Syed Saddiq seeks the withdrawal because he wished to focus on his political struggles on a different platform.
“It is his right to do so for whatever reason. He is not saying that he was rightly dismissed (from Bersatu). He still maintains that what has been done to him was wrong and does not accept his removal.
“His withdrawal will not impact the main suit pending in court by the other five plaintiffs.
“The hearing of the (remaining) plaintiffs’ application for interim injunction and (the defendants’) striking out the application will still be heard by the (Kuala Lumpur) High Court tomorrow,” Haniff said.
Tomorrow is fixed for the court to hear the application by former Bersatu chairperson and former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad and five others for an interim injunction to maintain status quo in their legal challenge against their expulsion from the party.
The five other plaintiffs are former party deputy president Mukhriz Mahathir, Syed Saddiq, former supreme council members Maszlee Malik, Amiruddin Hamzah and former secretary-general Marzuki Yahya. Haniff is the counsel for all the plaintiffs.
Mahathir and the others are suing Bersatu president and Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and three others over their alleged wrongful termination from the party.
The High Court tomorrow is also set to hear an application by Muhyiddin and the three other defendants to strike out the main suit.
The other defendants are Home Minister and Bersatu secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin, Bersatu organising secretary Muhammad Suhaimi Yahya, and Registrar of Societies (ROS) director-general Masyati Abang Ibrahim.
