Umno members are fasik for not wanting to enforce Islamic laws, including the Hudud , according to the Kelantan state exco in charge of Islamic affairs, Muhammad Daud.

He explained to the Kelantan state assembly session yesterday that the term fasik refers to Muslims who refuse to enforce or implement Islamic laws, but it does not amount to being kafir (infidel).

PAS leaders has in the past labelled Umno members as kafir for being in the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition government which also comprises other non-Muslims party leaders.

Muhammad made the remarks when answering a question from BN state assembly representative Nozula Mat Diah who wanted to know why PAS members did not recognise imams from among the Umno people appointed by the Kelantan Religious Council (MAIK).

Utusan Malaysia yesterday reported Muhammad as saying it was because Umno members do not want to enforce Islamic laws, especially the Hudud , which amounts to them being fasik .

"As such, PAS members do not attend prayers at the mosque where the imams are Umno people because they ( imams ) have become fasik ," he said.

Muhammad's remark drew a protest from Nozula who challenged Muhammad to reveal if there was any Quranic verses which say that Umno members are fasik .

Muhammad replied that the Quran has mentioned in general that anyone who does not want to enforce the Islamic law is considered fasik .
