Perak police are probing allegations that a popular local YouTuber was recently assaulted by her husband, who has since been arrested.

The Star reported Ipoh district police chief A Asmadi Abdul Aziz had confirmed the man's detention.

"We are currently investigating the case," he was quoted as saying.

The daily cited a source who said the alleged incident took place at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh, yesterday.

The source claimed that the YouTuber was visiting a relative in labour, and her husband, said to be in an intoxicated state, had sparked a dispute which ended with the alleged assault.

It was purported that the man was armed with a sickle.

Separately, Harian Metro quoted a source claiming that a hospital security guard had received a report from a nurse on duty at 5.54pm yesterday.

The source said the nurse had claimed to see a drunk man entering one of the wards while carrying a sickle, looking for the YouTuber's brother-in-law over a family dispute.

The Malay newspaper also reported that the 29-year-old man was taken to court at 10am and Magistrate Nabihah Mohd Noor granted a three-day remand order to facilitate investigations under Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapon Act 1958.
