Two land tussles between the public and the state government have been brought to the attention of Selangor Menteri Besar Dr Mohd Khir Toyo.

The first involves a land off Jalan Ladang that was gazetted on Dec 18, 1980 for the construction of Taman Palm Grove primary school .

According to DAP Selangor chairperson Ong Chee Keng, a letter from the Klang Municipal Council (MPK) dated March 9 this year however indicated that the council has approved of a housing estate on the same plot of land.

Ong said this in his protest memorandum which was handed to Khir's secretary Mohd Yusof yesterday.

"The land had been gazetted and reserved for building the primary school since 1980, it is not right for the council to convert this land into a housing area," he said in the memorandum, adding that the residents there were in favour of having the school.

Land title woes

In a separate memorandum, Ong highlighted the plight of a municipality rate payer from Pekan Ampang, Ampang who had repeatedly tried unsuccessfully to apply for the land title to his house.

Ong claimed that the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) had rejected the house owner's application on grounds that the land were road reserves owned by the state government.

But on April 30, the house owner received an eviction notice stating that the council has sold the land rights to a developer who would construct a four-storey shop lot on the land.

"The owner and his family had been living in this land for almost a century, it is unfair that MPAJ just take the land away from them," said Ong.
