Umno advisory council chairperson Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah has urged Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin to call for a snap election to ensure political stability.
According to Harian Metro, the former finance minister contended that such stability was crucial to help the domestic economy recover from the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The prime minister has the power to make the consideration whether there ought to be a snap election to allow the people the chance to choose a new government.
“As long as we remain in this situation, the rakyat will face problems, especially retrenchment,” he was quoted as saying.
Elaborating, the Gua Musang MP opined that Perikatan Nasional’s precarious hold on power did not provide investor confidence, further exacerbating present economic woes.
“We want to attract investors and provide employment opportunities to those who are without jobs after being dismissed.
“Do we need to wait until everything turns bad before we want to hold an election?
“That is the big question. I am concerned that crime will rise as the people turn bad (due to economic problems),” he said.
The Malaysian Institute of Economic Research (MIER) previously projected that the unemployment rate could hit approximately 11 percent, affecting 1.7 million Malaysians by the end of the year.
In April, the official unemployment rate was five percent, the highest since 1990.
The PN government came into power in March after the “Sheraton Move” political coup. It presently holds a two-seat majority in the Dewan Rakyat.
Tengku Razaleigh’s latest comments follow his call yesterday for Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak to “sacrifice” themselves and step aside for young blood in the party.
Zahid and Najib are both on trial for corruption charges.
Earlier this month, Tengku Razaleigh opined that Umno ought to enter in a general election without Bersatu to ease seat allocations and ensure political stability.
