“We don’t quit”.

Those were the words of encouragement by Nooryana Najwa Najib, the daughter of recently convicted former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak, to supporters following yesterday’s verdict.

In a posting on Instagram Stories, Nooryana thanked supporters after what she deemed was a “very long and emotional past 48 hours”.

This comes after the Kuala Lumpur High Court yesterday handed down a 12-year concurrent prison sentence after finding the former premier guilty on all seven charges in relation to RM42 million in funds from 1MDB-linked SRC International Sdn Bhd.

While “disappointed”, Nooryana said the family vowed to keep their spirits up.

“This is not the end guys. We are disappointed but we don’t quit.

“Today is another day and another day brings endless possibilities... if we keep our spirits up. Inshallah,” she wrote on the short-term Stories post, which is designed to last for only 24 hours.

Najib was convicted on one count of abuse of power, three counts of criminal breach of trust, and three counts of money laundering.

Judge Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali sentenced the accused to 72-years jail in total and RM210 million in fines. However, as the sentences were ordered to run concurrently, Najib would have to serve 12 years instead.

However, the judge allowed a stay of execution pending appeal by the defence but raised the bail amount by RM1 million.

In her posting today, Nooryana said she was heading to the court today to settle some matters related to the case as she and a sibling served as Najib’s guarantors in the SRC International case.

Najib’s legal woes, however, are far from over as this is just one of several ongoing criminal court cases the former BN chairperson has on his plate.

The other pending cases are the RM2.28 billion 1MDB abuse of power case, the 1MDB audit report tampering case, the RM6.6 billion IPIC (International Petroleum International Corp) CBT case, and the RM27 million SRC International money laundering case.
