It happened when Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin was winding up the debate on the motion of thanks on the royal address for her ministry, just minutes before the sitting was due to end for the day.
Chang Lih Kang (Harapan-Tanjong Malim) stood up, citing Standing Order 13 (1), which stipulates that at least 26 members of the House excluding the chairman must be present.
Abdul Latiff Abdul Rahman (PAS-Kuala Krai) then interrupted to say some MPs were performing the Maghrib prayer while Noh Omar (BN-Tanjung Karang) questioned the need to raise the quorum issue as the meeting was about to end.
Speaker Azhar Azizan Harun then made a count before asking for the bell to be rung to summon MPs into the chambers.
The meeting, just two minutes from its scheduled end, then proceeded when there were enough MPs present.
Azhar told the MPs to better value their time to discuss issues in the House.
He said it was unfortunate that precious time was wasted by members, and he was not sure if their actions were politically motivated or not.
