Shah Alam High Court upholds Rayhan’s remand extension
The Shah Alam High Court has today upheld a 13-day extension to Bangladeshi national Md Rayhan Kabir's remand order until Aug 19.

The duo sought to challenge the order at the High Court on the grounds that the initial 14-day remand immediately after his arrest was sufficient for authorities to conduct investigations.
“The revision was heard in the High Court of Shah Alam before (judicial commissioner) Ab Karim Ab Rahman.
“The court upheld the remand order on the grounds that the remand was essential for national integrity,” the lawyers said in a statement today.
Rayhan, 25, was accused of making false allegations regarding Malaysia’s treatment of undocumented migrants in the country during an interview for Al-Jazeera’s documentary “Locked up in Malaysia’s Lockdown”.
His work visa was cancelled, and he was subsequently arrested on July 24. Authorities intend to deport Rayhan and blacklist him forever from re-entering the country.
On Aug 6, police said they had submitted investigation papers on Al-Jazeera to the Attorney-General’s Chambers for further action.
Rayhan was among those questioned as part of the investigation, as well as six Al-Jazeera staff.
