Bersatu deputy president Faizal Azumu today stressed that the party's leadership council has made no decision on Azmin Ali's position in the party.

"I wish to clarify that when I was responding to a question from the media (yesterday), I said that any suggestions regarding Azmin's position in Bersatu will be discussed by the supreme council.

"This matter has yet to be discussed and I stressed that all party matters have to be discussed by the supreme council," said Faizal (above) in his maiden press release as the new Bersatu No 2 today.

According to Bernama yesterday, Faizal said the Bersatu's extraordinary general meeting will discuss whether to appoint Azmin as a vice president of the party.

His statement today did not mention the vice president position.

Azmin and thousands of his followers officially joined Bersatu on Saturday, which coincided with the conclusion of the Bersatu leadership election.

He is widely expected to be co-opted into the party's national leadership structure in view that he is a senior minister in Bersatu president and Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin's cabinet.

Azmin has been credited as one of the key figures who engineered the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan administration in collaboration with Bersatu in February.
