(AFP) Former Indonesian president Abdurrahman Wahid arrived here today for a brief visit during which he will meet Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad for private talks, officials said.

Wahid is accompanied by his wife Ibu Siti Nuriah and daughter Inayah Wu Landeri.

"He is on a private visit, so we are not aware of the purpose or nature of his talks with the prime minister," a government spokesman told AFP .

The near-blind Muslim cleric, who was sacked as president by the national assembly in July and replaced by President Megawati Sukarnoputri, was scheduled to meet Mahathir for talks later today.
