Abdul Manaf Ariffin, UPM's student representative council president, should have been expelled from the university, says an outrage reader.

On Student scuffles: UPM's damage control pathetic

Locally Bred & Born Malaysian: I am really upset and angered by the conduct [see video] of these so-called 'pro-establishment' university students and the management of UPM (Universiti Putra Malaysia). Abdul Manaf Ariffin, the student representative council president, should have been expelled from the university as a lesson for him.

Fortunately, the SPF (Students Progressive Front) students were calm enough to withstand the unbearable humiliation and avoided a tragedy from happening. They surely deserved a compliment from me. Surprisingly, after this event, nobody from the authorities and government took it seriously. So far, we have not heard of any action taken against the perpetrators. They were even being seen proudly shaking hands with themselves in a press conference recently.

Why weren't there any action taken? Where is the law that supposed to protect us regardless of race? Are they not taking any actions because the perpetrators are Malays? These are some of the questions running through my mind. First, the seditious ethnic book written by the unqualified half-past-six lecturers in that university and now this incident that could easily cause another riot in the country. It is really worrying and shameful to send our children to the local universities.

Hand & Mouth Tied: The UPM incident and the 'cover-up' remind me of the punishment usually meted out by the administrative authorities (headmasters, vice-headmasters and disciplinary teachers) in our Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (to show that they are fair and just) whenever similar ugly incidents occur between students of different ethnic origins under their charge.

Normally, when called upon to judge, settle and mete out punishment against the party at fault, it is more often than not that they tend to point their fingers at those who are ethnically different from them even though they are not at fault. These aggrieved and wrongfully punished students usually end up hurt for life and will forever dislike people who are of the same ethnic origin as their unfair accusers.

I know such things happened because I was there when they occurred.. So much for our cordial ethnic relations in Malaysia.

HJ Angus: This incident shows that the university authority is not in control of the situation and those elected student reps should not be allowed to act as an enforcement team for university rules. They should only be allowed to report such activities to the university authority.

If the police do not investigate, the end result will most likely be a cover-up. This incident is assault and intimidation and should be probed by the police. They cannot wait for a more serious incident like a killing before being involved.

On Mahathir's speech on landing in Subang

Hooi: The sly doctor has successfully mislead many unthinking Malaysians into believing that only one euro was involved in the sale of MV Agusta. He conveniently 'forget' to point out the massive liabilities that come with the sales of the company and most important of all, the new buyer's financial background would have to satisfy the lender banks in order for them to let Proton off the hook.

Starlight-Starbright: I dread the possible return of Dr M to active political leadership. Can't the Malays see this guy for what he is? The records are there to substantiate that he is a crook of the highest order. On the other hand, the Malays seem to be suckers for punishment; now they may be clamouring for more.

On Dr M vs Pak Lah - next round 'decisive'

Meng: I agree with Lim Kit Siang. Pak Lah must call for a full investigation into the excesses of the last 22 years. This is necessary to distinguish the BN of Mahathir and the BN of Badawi. If not, Pak Lah will be as responsible for the plunder and wanton use of public funds without accountability over the last 22 years of Mahathir's rule.

Our PM must bring to justice and investigate all that has been revealed in the last two months. Just to name a few: the Tenaga crises, Anwar's revelation of the Bank Negara scandal which resulted in billions of ringgit loss, the Sabah immigrants scandal, Miti share allocation, AP scandal, Perwaja, MAS and Renong, not forgetting the use of EPF money. Until justice is done and the wrongs made right, the curse of the last 22 years will forever haunt this new administration.

On 10,000 Muslims attend forum on apostasy

Sickened Malaysian: So the Anti-Article 11 forum was held without any demonstration by anyone inside or outside the venue! What does this prove about the difference in attitude between the pro and anti-Article 11 groups - those who believe in democracy and those who don't, those who believe in violence and those who don't, those who are always feeling insecure and those who don't, those who believe in humanity and those who don't!
