Successful applicants may be placed in hospitals, health clinics, laboratories, district health departments and at the MOH crisis preparedness and response centre (CPRC),
Some applicants will be placed in quarantine stations across the country or be stationed at the country's various entry points.
According to Health Minister Dr Adham Baba, the federal government has agreed to increase the number of health workers by 2,000 as part of the Prihatin Economic Stimulus Package.
Adham's statement did not state the duration of the contract period. Malaysiakini has sought clarification from Adham's office.
Malaysia is currently grappling with the highest number of active Covid-19 cases on record, mostly in Sabah.
Some hospital staff in Sabah have told Malaysiakini that they are currently facing a lot of strain.
The MOH has been recently sending staff from other parts of the country to support efforts in Sabah.
