A teenage air force personnel is seeking early termination from the Malaysian Air Force (TUDM) after being traumatised from constant bullying by his peers.

However, his efforts are stumped by officials who refuse to take any action.

Mohd Idris bin Mohamed, 19, claimed he has been punched, kicked, forced fed large plates of rice and even a bottle of sambal belacan by seven to eight of his seniors all because he is of Indian Muslim descent.

"They have called me 'keling pariah' and beat me until my cheeks and lips were bruised and bleeding. They even shattered the bone on my right small finger," he said holding up pictures of those bruises.

"I never get to sleep in my room because they will beat me up for fun. I end up sleeping in the surau or in a store room," he added.

Mohd Idris explained that bullying and ragging was not uncommon during his training days in Ipoh, Kedah and Kuantan but none of them had prepared him for this.

The bullying started during orientation at the Subang Military Airbase since March but he claimed that he was threatened not to reveal the causes of his injuries.

His mother Laila binti Haji Ibrahim, 48, did not know about the bullying until last month when she noticed him looking weaker and acting differently.

"I used to sleep soundly thinking he is safe with the air force and is now a soldier. But now I am scared that they will kill him (from the bullying) there," she related at a press conference held at the DAP office in Petaling Jaya today.

"He has trouble sleeping now and cries at the thought of returning to work. He is too scared of his seniors," she added.

The air force's doctors have diagnosed Idris as having adjustment disorder, unfit to bear arms and unable to work night shifts. Yet the officials have not responded to the doctor's diagnosis and had not spoken nor seen Mohd Idris about this matter.

Police report lodged

She wrote to the major-in-charge to request for Mohd Idris's early termination but they have not heard anything from TUDM. She then sought help from Suhakam and was told that a doctor's letter confirming that Mohd Idris has a phobia towards his job is needed in order for them to do anything.

The family subsequently lodged a police report last month but the police said the matter is out of their jurisdiction.

Today, they brought up the matter to DAP and would also seek legal action against TUDM.

Mohd Idris' lawyer Lim Lip Eng who is also DAP's Klang Pasar Besar branch secretary said they will initiate a formal process to allow Idris to leave his post citing mental health issues.

"We are going to write letters to the majors and colonels involved. If nothing gets done we will

bring this to the civil courts demanding for early termination and damages," he said.

Idris, who is currently bound to serve TUDM for 10 years, would be incarcerated if he dodges service. He is scheduled to report back to duty on August 3.
