Sabah Chief Minister Musa Aman has given his word that no concrete buildings will be built on Sipadan island which is one of the world's top diving spot.

He said only divers' resting facilities, Sabah Park staff quarters and sewerage system would likely be constructed on the island, according to a Bernama report.

Musa added that the cabinet would only approve the construction of those facilities if they conformed to the recommendations of the Institute for Environment and Development (Lestari).

"The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment is still conducting a study on the viability of these projects," he said.

Recently, Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi angrily told the Sabah government to "lay off" Sipadan island, saying no major infrastructure development should be carried out there.

Musa is believed to have met the prime minister since then to explain the situation to him.

He also said that state Tourism Minister Chong Kah Kiat would further explain to the federal government on the matter if necessary.
