A manager who was terminated from his job crashed a car into his former office before throwing a petrol bomb at the premises in Ipoh, Perak.
The 52-year-old man later died after being hit by a lorry when he fled the scene on foot.
The incident happened at 6.42pm yesterday.
Ipoh police chief A Asmadi Abdul Aziz said it is believed the suspect was unhappy with the management after his recent termination.
"He had been suspended from work since September due to (alleged) disciplinary problems
"The Fire and Rescue Department put out the fire and no one was injured. The factory suffered damage of about RM1 million," Asmadi added.
Prior to the incident, the man purportedly posted a video on YouTube which has since gone viral.
In the 14-minute clip, he complained of suffering tremendous stress due to work-related issues.
He also claimed that the company's management allegedly racially discriminated against its employees, and showed copies of two police reports he had lodged on the matter.
Malaysiakini on Friday afternoon asked the Ipoh police chief about the man's allegations, and Asmadi confirmed that police are looking into it.
"We are conducting an investigation and looking at every angle," he said.
Asmadi, however, urged all quarters to wait until police conclude their probe and produce their findings.
"Police are conducting further investigation. Let us record statements and look at the facts before making any conclusion.
"No media trial, please. Let us finish our investigation first," he added.
Malaysiakini has contacted the Human Resources Ministry for its response to the incident.
