The Sng Chee Hua camp in Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) will be electing Sri Aman MP Jimmy Donald as the party's new president on Sept 9.

That is the day for the faction's extra-ordinary delegates conference (EDC) scheduled to be held in Santubong, near Kuching.

Sng, current PRS deputy president, is locked in a leadership tussle with party president Dr James Masing. However, Sng considered himself 'acting' president and Masing, the 'censure' president, following a supreme council meeting which he (Sng) called.

In a statement today, Sng urged all eligible delegates to attend the EDC in full force and to elect a new president until the party's triennial delegates conference due in 15 months time or possibly earlier.

Sng said he would not stand as candidate for president and instead would give his whole-hearted support to Jimmy who is also currently PRS vice-president. Jimmy is in his third term as MP but has never held any government position.

In his statement, Sng also said that Masing is misleading the party by claiming that he (Masing) in very much in control of the party.

He asked Masing to stop painting a false picture to party members by claiming he is still in control, adding this could create confusion and might also lead to the party being de-registered by the Registrar of Societies (ROS).

In what is clearly an indication of any let-up in the spat between the two party leaders fighting for control of Sarawak's youngest political party, Sng said that loyal party members did not want to see the party suffer a similar fate as Snap and PBDS.

No legal basis

Commenting on the June 11 supreme council meeting in Pending and the Aug 12 supreme council meeting in Sibu called by Masing this year, Sng said "the two so-called supreme council meetings had no legal basis as there were not enough quorum on both occasions."

This was because the so-called supreme council meetings were made up of members hand-picked by Masing who had no authority to do so under the party constitution.

Sng further said that the two so-called surpreme council meetings were unconstitutional and void of merits because the two notices of meeting were signed by Wilfred Nissom who he said has no locus standi to sign the two notices of meeting in his capacity as the purported secretary-general of PRS because to all intents and purposes, Sidi Munan is the legitimate secretary-general of the party.

He said with his statement and clarifications he hoped it would put to rest once and for all the confusion and falsehood created by Masing.

Masing, who is state land development minister, could not be contacted for comment today.
