Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, in a birthday note to Lim Guan Eng, said he had thought the DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng as the "embodiment of evil" when he first joined politics.

However, Syed Saddiq said after getting to know Lim, who is also the Bagan MP, he learnt that it was not true.

"When I first entered politics, I thought you were the embodiment of 'evil'.

"Years of indoctrination (mis)shaped my views of you and the family. However, after serving side-by-side, in the opposition-government-back to (the) opposition, you've truly changed my mind.

"You are a good man who wants the best for Malaysia," he said.

Lim, who celebrated his birthday yesterday, shared the note on Facebook.

Accompanying the note was artwork from the creative group Pangrok Sulap.

"I am touched by his gesture for my birthday. He presented me with a very meaningful piece from Pangrok Sulap and a handwritten letter.

"Although he is less than half my age, Saddiq has proven himself to be a leader with integrity and intelligence," Lim said.

Lim and his party DAP have for years struggled to shake off attacks that they are purportedly anti-Malay and anti-Muslims.

Syed Saddiq was formerly the youth chief of bumiputera-centric Bersatu.

Following his ouster, Syed Saddiq when on to form a multi-racial youth party called Muda, which is in the process of being registered.
