A pastor will face charges next week after his deaf followers accused him of molesting them between 2011 and 2016.
Bukit Aman CID director Huzir Mohamed said the police had received six police reports on the matter beginning Nov 12 this year and arrested the suspect on Nov 23.
“The victims were late in lodging the police reports because the suspect often influenced them by saying he is a leader and they must obey the suspect’s every instruction,” Huzir said in a statement today.
He said the suspect had been remanded for seven days from Nov 24 to Nov 30 at the Seberang Perai Utara district police headquarters and then quarantined until Dec 8 because he had come into close contact with a fellow detainee who tested positive for Covid-19.
He was then rearrested in relation to police reports lodged in Kepala Batas, Penang, and then remanded for four days in relation to two cases in the state.
He is now under a six-day remand from Dec 13 to Dec 18 for further investigation regarding police reports lodged in Petaling Jaya.
“The suspect will face two charges at the Butterworth court, Penang, on Dec 21, 2020,” he said.
Huzir said the 54-year-old pastor is a foreigner invited by an association for deaf persons to conduct religious classes at its church since 1998. He is married with two children in Korea.
His five victims are men ranging from 27 to 40 years old, who are members of the association and are deaf and mute.
The classes and church activities were regularly conducted in Penang and Selangor.
“All victims and the suspect are Christians. They knew each other through religious classes and church activities.
“The suspect violated his victims by touching, hugging, lip-kissing, and groping the victims’ genitals.
“The incidents occurred at church, in a car, and in the suspect’s rented house from 2011 until 2016,” he said.
