Recent events had led to Umno forgetting efforts to reform itself, warned party vice-president Mohamed Khaled Nordin.
"See for yourselves. After Umno supported Perikatan Nasional, we heard little about renewal in Umno.
"It is as if those Umno's real problems, which led to our defeat (in 2018), have been resolved once we are part of the government again. No one talks about reform. It is as though Umno is now perfect," he said.
Khaled said this when officiating the Pasir Gudang Umno division's annual general meeting today where he is the division head.
He said that the best path for the party to form the government again in the future was to "really change" and showcase its strength.
Acknowledging that it was difficult to change a party as old and large as Umno, Khaled said realign Umno was necessary because the environment was changing and Umno needed to keep up with times.
"It is difficult, but we must try and put in the effort... Without renewal, Umno will continue to be nostalgic over its past achievements," he said.
