JAKARTA (AFP) - Indonesian President Megawati Sukarnoputri and her husband Taufik Kiemas flew to Malaysia today to pay respects to the late king, Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah.
They left early in the morning and were seen off by several cabinet ministers, military leaders and the governor of Jakarta, an officer at Halim Perdanakusumah air base said.
A presidential spokesman said Megawati and her husband would pay respects to the body at the royal palace but would not attend the funeral Thursday. They would return home in the afternoon.
Sultan Salahuddin died in a Kuala Lumpur hospital on yesterday at the age of 75, almost two months after a heart operation in Singapore.
Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad has declared a week of mourning for the king, who will buried in his family's royal mausoleum in Klang near the capital Kuala Lumpur.
