Covid-19 (March 28): 1,302 cases; spike in Sarawak - highest on record

COVID-19 | The Health Minisry reported 1,302 new cases of Covid-19 today, and four deaths.

The number of new cases outpaced recoveries (1,127), leading to an increase in active cases.

  • Active cases: 14,380
  • Patients in ICUs: 169
  • Intubated: 76

New cases by states

There was a spike in new infections in Sarawak (426), the highest the state has reported since the pandemic began in Malaysia.

The spike was due in part to a surge of infections in a cluster linked to the Semuja immigration depot (191 cases).

This is only the second time cases in Sarawak have exceeded 400 per day, the last being on March 19 (407)

Meanwhile, Selangor continued a downtrend reporting 256 new cases today.

Deaths

There were four fatalities today, bringing the death toll to 1,255.

The new deaths were recorded in Selangor (1), Sarawak (2) and Kedah (1).

Those who died were aged between 63 and 77.

Clusters

There are 381 active clusters including three new ones today.

Of the active clusters, 60 had new cases today.

Only one cluster - Depot Imigresen Semuja - had triple-digit cases.
