The Kuching High Court today struck out a petition filed against the election of Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) deputy president Peter Nyarok as the Krian state assemblyperson.

In a courtroom packed by Nyarok's supporters, Judge Allan Skinner ruled that the election petition was not effectively served on the respondent.

The court concurred with the grounds submitted by the respondent's senior leader counsel Zaki Tun Azmi that the petitioner Sarawak National Party (Snap) secretary-general and the Krian defeated candidate Stanley Jugol, had had election petition effectively served as was mandatory under the election laws.

Jugol lost by 2,089 votes against Nyarok, who is also a state assistant minister, in the May 20 state election.

He had sought a declaration from the court that Nyarok's election was void on the grounds of alleged corruption.

ACA report

He told malaysiakini after the verdict that he would lodge a report with the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) against Nyarok soon.

Jugol was represented by Dominique Ng Kim Ho while Azmi was assisted by Kilat Beriak and Daisy Tham.

Last week, the Sibu High Court allowed the application by the Independent state assemblyperson for Ngemah Gabriel Adit to strike out the petition to declare his election void by defeated BN-PRS candidate Alexander Vincent.

Four election petitions were filed after the state elections.

The others involve the election of PBB deputy president and Deputy Chief Minister Alfred Jabu to the Layar state seat (which will be heard later this week) and the election of SPDP's Nelson Balang to the Ba'kelalan seat (which is currently being heard).
