YOURSAY | So no Covid SOP good enough for our MPs?

YOURSAY | ‘It is a lie that our Parliament is closed to protect the health of our MPs.’

Azalina questions Takiyuddin's justification to keep Parliament shut

Are you clueless or attempting to hoodwink public, PAC chief asks minister

Oriole: So here is how things look now - the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government has opened schools and allowed children to attend classes despite the students not being vaccinated.

The government has also allowed markets and Ramadan bazaars to be opened where physical distancing is almost impossible.

Despite this, Parliament cannot open because of Covid-19? Is this because the lives of cabinet ministers and members of parliament (MPs) are more precious than the lives of ordinary Malaysians at bazaars and in schools?

Is that what they would have us believe? Or is this a sinister sort of destabilisation of the democratic process and an attempt to legitimise an illegitimate government?

RZee: These backdoor government leaders think all Malaysians are stupid.

The whole world has been affected by Covid-19 and Malaysia is the only country to declare an emergency, suspend Parliament, and then do what they like with the country’s funds without parliamentary oversight.

As rightly pointed out by netizens, we can have Ramadan bazaars, we can go to work, we can gather by following the Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs), but Parliament and the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) cannot convene as if no SOP is good enough for them.

Karma: It is a lie that our Parliament is closed to protect the health of our MPs - this actually leaves our government's activity unchecked.

In Singapore, their Parliament went on as usual. I watched their proceedings via Channel News Asia. But I can't watch my own Parliament because they closed shop.

I suggest for the Malaysian Parliament to be attended by party representatives on a daily rotation basis in order to comply with SOPs. The balance of the MPs can attend online where necessary.

Apa Ini: Parliaments everywhere else are still open and meeting. All our parliamentarians have gotten vaccinated and could get tested before the august House convenes.

Our MPs can still be safely distanced with the installation of clear divider screens, etc. It's not rocket science, de facto law minister Takiyuddin Hassan.

Apa Aku Dapat: PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin is quite a sly law minister trying to justify the illegitimate government’s unjust hold on power. Either that or he is just another plain blur PAS character.

Why should Parliament be suspended in the first place? So that the PN government can loot the coffers of the hard-earned taxpayer money?

Takiyuddin is afraid he will lose his position in Putrajaya - just like the rest of the backdoor government leaders. Restore democracy and reconvene Parliament now!

YellowShark2197: Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker Azalina Othman Said, please ask your Umno colleagues to resign en bloc.

Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, after being in Umno for so long, knows Umno’s weakness very well. It is called “an addiction to power and steady stream of monthly income”.

For as long as all of you sit in your respective positions, all of you remain as “Mahiaddin’s” tools and are therefore at his disposal.

Kuniyo: PAS is not used to people questioning them. They prefer for people to accept whatever they say without question. That is why Kota Bharu MP Takiyuddin is happily defending the suspension of Parliament in the name of Covid-19.

And Azalina is actually the reason why Parliament will not reopen. Why? Because Muhyiddin knows that she can allow for a non-confidence vote to proceed and Muhyiddin will thus lose his premiership.

Very Concerned Citizen: Azalina, this PAS MP is just following the instructions of your boss, the prime minister. So if you do not agree with Takiyuddin or Muhyiddin, just resign. There is no point in talking. Actions speak louder than words.

Or is there something you know is brewing that we do not know of? Are you worried that this backdoor government of yours is going to collapse soon and you are putting out feelers so that the current opposition may call you to join them once PN collapses?

Kawak: PAS leaders, especially their president Abdul Hadi Awang, are experts in coming up with ridiculous justifications to counter their political opponents. Hadi even claimed that those who oppose the emergency are worse than suicide bombers.

Quo Vadis: The calibre of politicians in the current corridors of power defies understanding.

This is inevitable when there is no check and balance and no accountability for the sullying of well-established norms of good, acceptable, transparent, law-abiding governance. How more feudalistic can this government get?

Jaycee: The public does not trust this group of people in government no matter which party they belong to. All of them have got to go. We need new blood as this group of "old blood" has proven they are only good at hoodwinking and/or gas-lighting the rakyat.

Unfortunately, there is nothing they can say or do to bring back the trust of the people. The government has proven, time and again, that they are in power through dishonest backdoor dealings, graft, bribery, political patronage, and playing the race card.

There is no transparency and/or accountability. And under the disguise of the "emergency", further wealth can be looted and hoarded.

Ex-Wfw: Do they think if they could do everything under the cover of darkness, they will not be responsible for their actions?

It looks like the government is still trying to work everything under the cover of darkness, without parliamentary oversight, where citizens are not supposed to know what has taken place.

Is this any different from what had happened with the 1MDB scandal?
