Malaysia has eased visa regulations for visitors from India in a bid to boost tourist traffic.

Tourism Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said in a statement that visitors from India can now apply for a visa upon arrival in Malaysia which would be valid for 30 days.

Previously, Indians wanting to travel to Malaysia had to apply for a visa before departure.

Indians are the largest tourist spenders in Malaysia, with receipts up 72 percent in 2005 to RM558 million, the tourism ministry said in the statement.

Malaysia, which has embarked on a major plan to woo tourists next year, hopes to attract 350,000 Indians in 2007 after 225,789 visited in 2005.

Minister Tengku Adnan is currently on a 10-day tour of India.
