The allegation that the wife of Perak mufti Harussani Zakaria had died due to a Covid-19 infection that went viral on social media was fake.

The matter was confirmed by Perak deputy mufti Zamri Hashim when contacted by Bernama today.

"She has returned from Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital, Ipoh and is now at their house," he said.

He advised irresponsible individuals who spread such fake news to stop it immediately.

"They should pray for the recovery of Harussaini who is still being treated at the hospital's Intensive Care Unit and not spread the news that disregard the sensitivities of his family," he said.

Earlier, Perak Menteri Besar Saarani Mohamad, who also holds the state's Islamic religious affairs portfolio, said that Harussani and his wife had tested positive for Covid-19 since before Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
