Information Minister Zainuddin Maidin has warned of internal and external elements trying to take advantage of Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's open leadership style.
He said that these groups have claimed, among others, that the objective on bumiputera participation in the economy has been achieved,
Bernama
reported.
Zainuddin hoped that the people, the younger generation in particular, will appreciate the history of the nation that had prospered as a result of the policies implemented long ago, among which were balancing the economy, rights and opportunities for the Malays.
On the prime minister's open leadership style, he said it would not undermine the country's policies that have been in place for so long.
He said the policies that were collectively agreed upon by the multiracial society were still intact although there were people trying to take advantage of Pak Lah's openness.
Diplomatic style
Zainuddin added that the prime minister also had a different style in resolving issues concerning relations with other countries and preferred the diplomatic channel, which appeared to be more effective.
He also hit out at certain editors who allowed the publication of articles touching on religious issues, especially Islam.
"When a Muslim writes a sensitive article which is deviant, insulting and belittles Islam, it is the responsibility of the editor (to vet it). Don't just see a Muslim (writer) and the editor allows (the publication)," he said.
However, he did not name the writer nor the publication.
