Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Dr Rais Yatim said today the court's decision to reject a police application to remand Certificate in Legal Practice examination director Khalid Yussof should not be disputed.

Magistrate Wan Azizon Ahmad must have had a strong reason for rejecting the application, he said according to a Bernama report.

"When you go for such an application, the magistrate must be satisfied with the need to remand. You have to be satisfied under the cardinal rule of the adequacy of evidence," Rais told reporters after attending a function in Pahang.

Yesterday, Wan Azizon rejected the remand application after Khalid was produced in the Kuala Lumpur magistrate's court.

According to one of Khalid's lawyers, Akbardin Abdul Kadir, police had sought a seven-day remand order from the magistrate.

Marks tampering

Khalid has been in the limelight since he was implicated by the Legal Profession Qualifying Board for alleged marks tampering during the marking of this year's CLP exam. The board suspended him from his post on Tuesday.

The board claimed after a meeting last week that it discovered discrepancies in the marks recorded on the examination papers and the master sheet.

It also said that Khalid oversaw the preparation, conduct and marking of the examination answer papers after which he would table the results together with the examiners' report to the board for approval.

Following the discovery, a police report was lodged by the board on the same day and Khalid was arrested at his house in Shah Alam on Thursday.
