The mother of a wireman who died when a patrol car collided with the motorcycle he was riding pillion on, has filed a suit against police officers involved and the government of Malaysia.

Markonah Satiman, 52, filed the suit today at the Kuala Lumpur High Court at Wisma Denmark accompanied by her counsel P Uthayakumar.

Her fourth son Mohd Iqbal Wagiman, who was 18 at the time, died on the night of 28 Oct 2003 after the collision which occurred in Putrajaya.

According to her statement of claim, Constable Azhar Ali suspected that Iqbal and motorcycle driver Rosnan Abdullah were illegal racers and suddenly gave chase.

Freak accident?

Azhar later admitted to Markonah's family at the Putrajaya Hospital that night that he was 'forced' to ram the motorcycle Iqbal was riding on as they had failed to stop when signaled to do so, read the statement.

In all, Markonah is seeking RM127,000 for special cost such as lost of income and funeral cost, while another RM10,000 was sought for bereavement.

Other defendants named in the suit includes former Selangor Chief Police Officer Mohd Noor Hamat, Putrajaya district police chief Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd and the Malaysian government.

In December 2003, Malay Mail reported that several Putrajaya police personnel were investigated over the incident, which was classified as a 'freak accident' by the police.
