They now move on to the semi-finals.
Yesterday, national men’s singles ace Lee Zii Jia marched stylishly into the round of 16 with a masterful 21-17, 21-5 win over France’s Brice Leverdez in their final Group M match.
World number eight Zii Jia looked swift and sharp as he tamed the Frenchman in just 35 minutes at the Musashino Forest Sport Plaza.
Chia and Soh were 2019 All England Open finalists and also bagged the Sea Games gold in the same year.
In past games, Malaysian athletes have won a total of 11 Olympic medals, eight of them in badminton.
This includes six silvers and two bronze, meaning that the nation is still awaiting its first gold medal, in any sport.
In a Facebook post after the win, Chia thanked Malaysians for their support.
"We feel your support so we make it today! Thank you all of you especially (those) who comment and pm me since last night.
"This is only the beginning, and there are still a few hard battles to come.
"We will not slacken because of the success today, demi Malaysia and Malaysians, me and Wooi Yik will prepare ourselves to perform in the next match until (we) achieve the final goal!" he said.
