Malaysiakini 's video team checked out two hotspots - one in Klang and the other in Kuala Lumpur - where Hindus and others alike went to do their Deepavali shopping.

Traders in Klang's Little India area around Jalan Tengku Kelana and at the KL Sentral Deepavali carnival area in Brickfields offered anything from colourful sarees to bangles to the sweet and crispy traditional cookies.

Both the areas attracted thousands of shoppers but still there were murmurs of complaints from traders that their coffers were not filling up as they had wished.

And from the shoppers perspective, there were also claims the despite having many stalls, most of these stalls were selling the same items.

Malaysiakini crew interviewed some of these shoppers and traders for their views and on how to further improve the temporary Deepavali shopping carnivals in years to come. The video is in Tamil and English.
