Umno Youth will send a report to the Education Ministry soon regarding its claim that university lecturers are delivering anti-government speeches.

Its education bureau chairperson Dr Adham Baba said he would submit the report for further action.

He said the report contains names and numbers of university lecturers involved, including the time and dates of their 'misconduct'.

"I have detailed information about the misconducts and am ready to submit it to the relevant authorities," Adham told malaysiakini when contacted at his office in Johor Baru today.

"However, as Hari Raya Puasa is just around the corner, Umno Youth decided to submit the report after the festive season," he added.

Adham said he hoped that the government would take stern action on the lecturers concerned.

Monitored since 1999

"We have enough evidence to bring the case to the government's attention because we have monitored the lecturers' involvement closely since 1999," he said.

However, he refused to elaborate on the details.

"Delivering a political speech during lecture, with the intention of influencing students, is a clear act of misconduct.

"It seems that there is a trend of delivering a ten-minute anti-government speech by some lecturers in several universities in Malaysia," he said, but refused to name the lecturers and universities.

Earlier today Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi urged Umno Youth to lodge a report to the education ministry on the purported ten-minute anti-government speeches given by some university lecturers.

Abdullah said the government would take stern action against the lecturers concerned.

He also said that the ministry would ensure that all universities do not flout rules and regulations that ban lecturers from spreading political influence on campus.
