Keadilan's former secretary-general Mohd Anuar Tahir will take legal action against those who use the media to tarnish his image.

Anuar who lost his vice-president seat after Keadilan's election last month, claimed some media had portrayed him as not performing his duties according to party procedures.

He said the media have also slammed him for trying to be a champion of factions within the party and his refusal to register many divisions and branches throughout the country.

He was also blamed for not making serious efforts to increase the party's membership during his leadership between 1998 and November this year.

"Such extreme malicious allegations are not only disturbing me but also damaging to my personal reputation in the eyes of the public," he said in a statement today.

"They are also damaging my credibility as a politician, and destroying my credibility as a youth, social and humanitarian activist locally and internationally."

Professional reputation at stake

Anuar said he is involved in various organisations, such as the Malaysian Muslim Youth Movement (Abim), National Youth Council, International Islamic Federation of Students Organisation (IIFSO), World Assembly of Muslim Youth and Yayasan Salam.

He added that he is also the chairperson of Yayasan Pembangunan Ummah and Cenpeace Trust; and a panel member of the Bar Council's disciplinary committee.

"According to Section 96 of the Law Profession Act 1976 (amendment 1993), such allegations are clearly damaging to my professional reputation," he said.

"I have and will discuss with my lawyers to file legal action against all parties involved in tarnishing my name."

Anuar also warned the parties concerned not to issue any controversial statements that could damage his reputation.
