LIVE [CONCLUDED] | Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has clocked in this morning to his office one last time as the country's eighth prime minister. 

He will now serve as caretaker prime minister until a new prime minister is appointed.

Muhyiddin confirms his resignation

3pm: Muhyiddin confirms that he has resigned after only 17 months of being the country’s eighth prime minister.

Also tendering their resignations are 29 members of his Perikatan Nasional cabinet.

“It is obvious that I have lost the majority support. So, there is no longer a need to ascertain my legitimacy as the prime minister in Parliament.

“So today, I have tendered my resignation as prime minister and also the resignation of my entire cabinet as required by the Federal Constitution,” he says in a special announcement aired live on television.


Solidarity between PN, BN, GPS to be maintained - Tuan Ibrahim

2.15pm: PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man says all party leaders in the cabinet meeting today agreed for the solidarity between PN, BN and GPS to be maintained after this.

“Alhamdullilah, in the meeting, everyone was calm, and every party representative gave a speech and everyone agreed to maintain the solidarity together.

“The fight is still long, and the vaccination programme has to go on. The rakyat’s welfare and the current situation of the struggling rakyat was still part of the prime minister’s speech just now,” Tuan Ibrahim says, as reported by Berita Harian.


Takiyuddin attributes resignations to 'collective responsibility'

1.53pm: Outgoing de facto Law Minister Takiyuddin Hassan attributes the resignations to "collective responsibility" as opposed to "collective guilt".

"Thank you for everything, the bitter part is medicine and the sweet is a cure. If the country is safe, all will be healed. #StaySafeAndFocus," tweets the PAS secretary-general.

Muhyiddin expected to address nation at 3pm

1.45pm: Outgoing Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin is expected to address the nation on live television at 3pm today, according to sources.


KJ: Cabinet has tendered resignation

1.15pm: Khairy Jamaluddin writes on his Instagram account that the cabinet has collectively tendered their resignation to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

"Thank you for the opportunity to, once again, serve the nation. May God bless Malaysia," says Khairy.

There's still no official word from Istana Negara or the chief secretary to the government.

However, a well-placed source tells Malaysiakini that the Agong has accepted the resignations.


Muhyiddin heads home

1.08pm: According to Bernama, the outgoing prime minister has returned to his residence at Bukit Damansara, Kuala Lumpur.

Muhyiddin's home is a five-minute drive from Istana Negara.


Annuar apologises for his wrongdoings

1pm: Federal Territories Minister Annuar Musa on his Facebook apologises for all his wrongdoings, weaknesses, and shortcomings during his service.

“We keep calm with an open heart. All decisions were made together. What’s more important is that we respect and abide by the laws and the constitution. The most important thing to consider is the well-being of the rakyat. We serve the rakyat till the finish line.

“I’m just a person who has flaws. Therefore, I apologise for all wrongdoings, weaknesses, and shortcomings during my service,” says the minister, who was at the special cabinet meeting this morning.


PM leaves Istana Negara

1pm: Muhyiddin's official car is seen leaving Istana Negara after an audience of about 40 minutes with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong. 


'Thank you for your service' - Wan Fayhsal

12.35pm: Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal posts another farewell message on Facebook.

"We stand tall and proud of you Tan Sri president. Thank you for your service and leadership. We’ll come back stronger, InsyaAllah," says Wan Fayhsal, who is also the deputy minister of youth and sports in Muhyiddin's administration.


'Final PN cabinet meeting ended' 

12.30pm: Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali posts on Facebook that the final cabinet meeting of the Perikatan Nasional government has ended.

"Alhamdulillah. The last cabinet meeting of the PN government ended this morning.

"The prime minister will leave to address the Yang di-Pertuan Agong," says Khairuddin.


PM arrives at Istana Negara

12.22pm: Muhyiddin arrives at the palace for a scheduled audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.


Just wait for announcement - senior minister

12.15pm: When contacted after the special cabinet meeting, Senior Works Minister Fadillah Yusof declines to comment if Muhyiddin told the cabinet of his resignation plan.

"Please wait until the announcement. All of you know that he is going to the Istana Negara anyway, just wait," he says.


Muhyiddin on his way to palace

12pm: Muhyiddin leaves the Prime Minister’s Office in Putrajaya after chairing a special cabinet meeting, speculated to be his last, before heading to the palace for an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.


AG, EC chief leave palace

11.54am: Idrus and Abdul Ghani leave the palace after an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.


Media treated with food and drinks

11.41am: The palace is providing food and drinks for the media personnel outside the gate.

The journalists have been gathering since early this morning to give updates on the arrivals to the palace.


Deputy IGP enters Istana Negara

11.26am: Deputy Inspector-General of Police Mazlan Lazim is arriving at Istana Negara. 


IGP arrives at palace

11.17am: Acryl Sani is seen arriving at Istana Negara.

He was at the special cabinet meeting with Muhyiddin in Putrajaya earlier.


AG enters Istana Negara

10.47am: Attorney-General Idrus Harun is seen entering the main gate of the palace.


EC chief arrives at Istana Negara

9.55am: Election Commission (EC) chairperson Abdul Ghani Salleh is spotted entering the Istana Negara.


Media at the ready

9am: It is also reported that around 30 media personnel from various agencies have started to gather outside Istana Negara at 8am, well ahead of Muhyiddin's scheduled audience at 11am with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.


Muhyiddin arrives at PMO

8.07am: Berita Harian reports Muhyiddin's arrival at his office followed shortly by Inspector-General of Police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani. They will attend a special cabinet meeting to be held in the Prime Minister’s Office at around 10am.

Muhyiddin will be chairing the meeting before leaving for Istana Negara.
