Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) state assemblyperson for Padungan Dominique Ng' has expressed disappointment that his move to introduce two motions in next week's sitting of the assembly has been rejected.

He had written to the assembly speaker giving notice that he intended to move a motion on financial grants for non-government schools and another motion to limit the tenure of the chief minister to two terms of five years each.

The opposition assemblyperson said the state government should emulate other state governments, including Sabah, by allocating an annual grant for all independent Chinese middle schools, Chinese primary schools and mission schools to support, maintain and in recognition of their century long contribution to education in Sarawak.

Ng told reporters that such categories of schools were in dire needs of funds for repairs. The independent Chinese middle schools, fo example, required about RM5 million a year to manage the schools.

"The state government does not provide such funds to these schools," he said.

On his second motion to limit the term of the chief minister to two of five years each, Ng said the issue is to reduce or prevent corruption.

The two motions were shot down in a reply from the assembly to Ng on Nov 13.

Meanwhile, Ng has also submitted a list of ten questions to the assembly meeting from Nov 20-29.

Top of the list is a question on Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud's family-controlled Caha Mata Sarawak Group (CMS. He wants to know, among other things, how many state government contracts have been given to the CMS Group since 1990 and their contract values.

The opposition assemblyperson also wants to know if the state government would bring English back as a second official language in the state as well as make Mandarin and Iban also as official languages in Sarawak.
