'We can agree to disagree'. This is what MCA Youth chief Liow Tiong Lai said 48 hours after he had lambasted Umno Youth delegates for spewing ' poison ' with their racist remarks.

"We (MCA Youth and Umno Youth) still have good relationship. Whatever differences we have, we can agree to disagree," he told a press conference after chairing a four-hour central committee meeting at the MCA headquarters in Kuala Lumpur today.

"Through the Barisan Nasional spirit, we can face any obstacle," he added.

He was responding to Umno Youth chief Hishammuddin Hussein's nonchalant reaction to Liow's earlier criticisms.

Keris issue

Liow said the remarks made by Umno Youth delegates were discussed during today's meeting but declined to elaborate as he had commented on this earlier.

He reiterated that all races should not fight for their own community's agenda at the expense of others. The national agenda should come first, he added.

As for Hishammuddin brandishing the keris (a traditional Malay dagger) during the Umno Youth assembly, Liow said: "This ( keris ) is their party symbol. Their party flag also contains the keris symbol. They have explained (this)."

The Umno Youth chief came under fire from opposition leaders for brandishing the weapon which they said was ' insensitive '.
