Protest against Hindu temple demolitions

The Hindu Rights Action Force today organised a peaceful protest at the parliament over the continuous demolitions of Hindu temples in the country.

About 200 people representing some 30 Hindu temples nationwide were present at the protest.

The group, known as Hindraf, had also wanted to submit a memorandum to the prime minister over the matter but discovered that there were no Umno ministers in the parliament.

"We wanted an Umno minister to see us as we wanted the Umno minister to raise the issue at the forthcoming cabinet meeting on Wednesday," said Hindraf's chairperson P Waytha Moorthy.

"The political reality is Umno and not the BN that rules this country. Only Umno can stop Hindu temples from being demolished," he added. They eventually left the memorandum at the parliament doorstep.

The gathered crowd carried placards and shouted slogans asking Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to save the Hindu temples.

Malaysiakini.tv was there to witness the protest.
