Eight families lost their entire belongings in a fire that swept through six homes in Kampung Pandan, Kuala Lumpur last month.

Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) gave them temporary shelter in a nearby multi-purpose hall and offered apartments at the Desa Tun Razak flats as permanent residence.

However the flats were in a bad state of disrepair. The victims also complained that the flats were far from their workplaces and children's schools and more importantly, without public transportation.

The victims have appealed for houses or apartments within a more reasonable distance from their gutted homes.

Malaysiakini.tv visited the razed homes, the dilapidated flats and spoke to some victims on their reluctance to move to the allotted flats.
