A motorcycle accessory manufacturing and assembling factory was fined RM13,000 at the Teluk Intan Sessions Court after one of its employees suffered serious injuries at work.
The Office of the Perak Department of Occupational Safety and Health (Dosh) said CJM Industries Sdn Bhd, represented by its managing director as the employer, pleaded guilty after the charge was read before judge Intan Nurul Farena Zainal Abidin.
The charge was made in accordance with Section 15 (1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994, which provides for a fine not exceeding RM50,000 or imprisonment not exceeding two years or both.
“CJM Industries, as an employer, has failed to ensure as far as practicable the safety, health and welfare of its employees while working, namely failing to provide a safe work system for activities using a stamping machine, resulting in an accident to a 52-year-old local worker.
“The 2.15pm accident on July 23 last year, caused the victim to suffer serious injuries, namely severing the index and middle fingers of his right hand due to being squeezed between the die and mould of the stamping machine,” Dosh said in a statement.
The judge imposed a fine of RM13,000 on the company.
