Annuar: Mat Sentol a filmmaker hero seemingly left behind
A recent documentary depicting the lifetime achievement and experiences of an unsung hero by the name of Mat Sentol has caught the attention of none other than Communications and Multimedia Minister Annuar Musa.

A recent documentary depicting the lifetime achievement and experiences of an unsung hero by the name of Mat Sentol has caught the attention of none other than Communications and Multimedia Minister Annuar Musa.
The minister, intrigued by the video produced by students from a local private university, decided to pay a visit to the respected comedian and film director’s residence in Johor Bahru today, which he broadcasted live on his Facebook page.
In the live stream, the Ketereh MP was seen greeting and having a friendly chat with Mat Sentol, whose real name is Abdul Rashid Yahya.
Mat Sentol, still looking dapper in a green batik shirt and a fedora despite being 89 years old, even had Annuar in stitches with his jokes.
Mat Sentol also definitely brought children born in the 80s down memory lane when he did his famous voiceover for a TV commercial for a children’s junk food Tora.
“Tora datang lagi…,” was the opener for the commercial, which was certainly a hit with children at that time as the junk food usually came with a toy.
‘Living legend’
Annuar, during the visit, sang praises for Mat Sentol, calling him a “living legend”.
“This is a living legend. It makes sense why people call them ‘unsung heroes’, because while other people receive the title ‘Tan Sri’ and ‘Datuk’, these (unsung heroes) sometimes get left behind.
“I have asked Finas (the National Film Development Corporation) to take the necessary steps to give him an appropriate recognition,” he told reporters.
Annuar also commended the students who produced the video, saying he learnt many new facts about Mat Sentol.
"Their work has unearthed the history of this actor and comedian. That is why I asked him if he was in Johor Bahru because I really wanted to meet him,” he added.
He also asked Mat Sentol to write some notes and advice for the country's film industry on a piece of paper to be framed.
At the same time, Annuar also presented a small contribution to the veteran actor on behalf of his ministry.
Earlier, when visited by the state government, Mat Sentol’s son Rosli denied rumours that his father was seriously ill and in a critical condition.
Saddened and disappointed by such allegations, Rosli explained that his father is still healthy, as reported by BH Online.
However, according to him, his father has the common problems of an elderly which limited his movement.
